Why do we need a President? My Son asks...

Yesterday when we are coming back from my Son's school reading night, he asked...

1. Who is a president?
A. I told him that he is the leader of our country and explained in other simple terms the usual definitions so that a Kindergartener would understand

2. Why do we need a president?
A. Well, I started off with a question back to him asking why they (students) need a class leader and line leaders and again explained in simple terms why we need a president.

He acknowledged to be satisfied with my answers at the moment but somehow I sense he is really not satisfied at least completely.

This kept me thinking all the while during my morning commute. Why do we really need a president in the current socio-economic conditions and does people really are convinced that we need a good president. If they are, why there are so many questions in different forms around us?? I have more pondering to do...

PS: Please let me know your thoughts on how you would deal with your children's interesting questions like these.

New Year Resolutions!

"Well, what are your New Year's resolutions?"... that is the frequent question I get right after Happy New Year wishes when we are back to office after a hearty holiday break.

Come to think of it, aren't resolutions little vague? Let me explain...
Res#01: I want to loose weight this year
Res#02: I want to go to Gym and excercise more frequently
Res#03: I want to be nice to my family, friends, etc

where is the quantitative aspect by which we can judge ourselves whether we abide by our resolutions or not? You see, on the professional side, I preach frequently the advantages of a good quantitative analysis, performance metrics, etc. I will not accept the likes of these resolutions in business.

Personally, I like Goals...
Goal#01: I will loose 7.5 Lbs of total body weight by Dec 31, 2008
Goal#02: I will hit the Gym 5 days a week and increase my average daily burn to 500 calories
Goal#03: I will spend at least 10 cumulative hours per each week with my kids on their projects
Goal#04: I will reduce my Total Body Fat Content to 12% by Dec 31, 2008
Goal#05: I will develop a visible six-pack Ab frame by Dec 31, 2008

Oh well, Happy New Year again!!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year 2008!

Every year we are the defacto hosts of New Year's Eve Party among our little community (we call ourselves "The Intellectuals"). This year, for the first time, we pushed the bar little up with regards to "Intellectual Fun" and went into the world of "How many PhDs does it take to screw a light bulb". Bottom-line: Ladies, Gentlemen, and the Kids alike, we had more fun than last year.
